Dear Middle School Parent:

The Mesquite Police Department presented the “What if…” program to your child along with all Mesquite Independent School District 7th graders and select 6th graders during the Fall of 2006. This program is designed to help kids make the right choices in life and to inspire and educate middle school students about problems with peer pressure, the adverse effects of drugs and alcohol along with an anti-gang/anti-violence message. On this page, you will find streaming video of the program which has been choreographed into a unique series of thought provoking presentations. After your family has viewed the video, you may want to discuss the program content with your child and reinforce these concepts. You may also wish to encourage your child to explore this website. It has been constructed to provide a forum between the students and the police officers involved in this program. The students are encouraged to submit questions, annonomously if needed, which will be posted and responded to by a police officer. There is also a helpful links page that could help guide a child in need of help.

The Mesquite Police Department is striving to improve the quality and future of our community. We believe the “What If…” program is a tool to help parents and educators fulfill this need. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to leave them in the response form on the home page.

My son attends Berry Middle School and recently brought home the "What If" CD. We watched it together and I just wanted to send a big thank you to the Mesquite Police Department for being proactive and supplying the kids with the CD's as well as visiting them at the schools. My
child and I openly talk about conscequences and this just helps reiterate that these things are real and I am not just being a mom. I think the reenactment of the drunk driving accident where the car is on campus and it show how it effects the student, parents, etc. is very powerful. My son will attend Horn in another year and I hope the children get to witness this. It is programs like these that will stick in the kids minds and they will remember next time they are faced with these issues. Thanks again and keep up the good work!
